Kazakhstan emerged triumphant against all the odds against Slovakia 4-3 in a shootout at the 2023 IIHF World Championship on Friday night.

It was Slovakia, who went in front in the first period through Libor Hudacek’s strike.
Roman Starchenko tied the match against the run of play at the beginning of the second period.
Valeri Orekhov stunned the Slovaks as he put his team in front just four minutes later. Yevgeny Rumarev compounded the shock as he doubled the Kazakhs lead just 32 seconds later.
A real onslaught followed in front of the Kazakhstan’s goal as the desperate efforts from the Slovaks were finally awarded, when Richard Panik reduced the lead at 3-2, just before Regende equalized at 16:58.
But in the shootout Kazakhstan sensationally prevailed an clinched an unlikely victory. They now sit tied in 6th with 4 points, while Slovakia are 5th with 5 points.
