Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has confirmed that Mohamed Salah will certainly make a return to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) if he successfully recovers from injury and Egypt advances to the final. The 31-year-old winger sustained a hamstring injury during Egypt’s 2-2 draw with Ghana, prompting his return to England for treatment.
Liverpool’s assistant manager, Pepijn Lijnders, has provided an optimistic outlook, stating that Salah is anticipated to resume action in three to four weeks, provided there are no setbacks in his recovery. With the AFCON final scheduled for Feb. 11, Klopp emphasized the shared interests of Egypt and Liverpool in having Salah regain fitness promptly.
Speaking after Liverpool’s advancement to the League Cup finals by defeating Fulham, Klopp expressed the priority of ensuring Salah receives the best possible medical treatment. He clarified that bringing Salah back to England is not an attempt to distance him from Egypt but rather to facilitate optimal medical care, acknowledging that staying in Africa might hinder the proper treatment, especially if Egypt progresses further in the tournament.
