Vincent Kompany has expressed his dissatisfaction with the way referees are being treated by managers.
According to the ex-Manchester City captain and current Burnley boss, the FA must step in with harder punishments in order to repress abuse towards match officials.
Kompany’s shared his view in a response to Brighton’s Roberto de Zerbi controversial comments that he disliked 80% of Premier League managers. However, he did escape punishment and the Belgian believes a clampdown is the only way of solving the issue.
“If we’re in a position where others might get an advantage, it becomes really difficult for us not to mimic the behavior, although we don’t want to.” Kompany said.
“I’ve tried my whole life not to, but it’s difficult. If the League are hard and make a decision that they won’t accept abuse any more, and no team can gain an advantage out of it, then it will stop.”
