The Sky Blues defender was informed of Gareth Southgate’s choice at the beginning of June and was happy to take more responsibility in the team that is drastically changed since the past major tournament – the World Cup in Qatar.
Only half of the footballers that played at the World Cup 2 years ago traveled with the Three Lions to Germany with Walker left one of the most experienced players.
Kyle takes the vice-captain role from Jordan Henderson, who was not picked for the tournament as the ex-Liverpool star had until recently a muscular problem.
The Sky Blues defender is the 2nd-most capped footballer in the team, playing his 83rd match for his nation in the past week’s 1-0 home loss against Iceland. Captain Harry Kane is the most capped player with 91 games.
