Dejan Joveljic, who entered the pitch in the 90th minute instead of Chicharito, scored only 60 seconds later to make it 2-0.
Ousseni Bouda netted the only goal for the Earthquakes in the 94th minute.
LA Galaxy, with this victory, is no more in the last place in the Western Conference as they are now 13th with 9 points after 11 matches.
San Jose Earthquakes are in 5th place with 18 points after 12 games.
