Anthony Davis delivered a stellar performance with 37 points and 10 rebounds as the Los Angeles Lakers narrowly secured a 122-119 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night, extending the Spurs’ franchise-record losing streak to 18 games.
Victor Wembanyama put up a remarkable fight for San Antonio with 30 points, 13 rebounds, and six blocks. Notably, Wembanyama became the first rookie since Spurs legend Tim Duncan in 1998 to achieve a stat line of 30 points, 10 rebounds, and six blocks in a single game. Unfortunately, his outstanding efforts weren’t enough to break the Spurs’ prolonged losing streak, which dates back to November 2.
LeBron James was notably absent from the Lakers lineup, sitting out the first of two consecutive games in San Antonio due to a left calf injury. The Lakers, however, managed to hold their ground without the four-time MVP. The two teams are set to face off again on Friday night.
The Lakers faced an early scare when Anthony Davis rolled his left ankle in the opening seconds, following a spin move against Wembanyama.
