The Las Vegas Raiders are set to part ways with defensive tackle Jerry Tillery as the new league year begins on Wednesday, as reported by ESPN on Saturday.
Originally the No. 28 overall pick by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2019, Tillery was waived by the Chargers and then-general manager Tom Telesco on Nov. 10, 2022. Subsequently, the Raiders claimed him off waivers, signing him to a two-year, $6.8 million contract in March 2023. It’s noteworthy that Telesco is now the general manager for the Raiders, having been hired in January.
With a $1.5 million roster bonus due next week and guaranteed 2024 salary, the decision to release Tillery will incur a dead cap hit of $375,000 for the Raiders. During his time with the Raiders, Tillery played in 25 games, making 10 starts, and tallied 31 tackles, two quarterback hits, two sacks, and one fumble recovery.
Over the course of his career, Tillery has participated in 79 games, starting 39 of them, and has accumulated 147 tackles, 14 quarterback hits, 12.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
