LA Lakers leader LeBron James is exercising his 52.6-million-dollar player option for the 2025-26 campaign.
LeBron, the league’s career scoring leader, wants to have the opportunity to win the title in the upcoming campaign and potentially beyond, and will be closely monitoring Los Angeles’ moves and whether the franchise will be among the favorites for the title.
“James wants to win the title,” his agent shared. “LeBron understands LA are building for the future. Despite that, he wants to have the realistic chance to be champion again.”
LeBron James is “uncertain” about the current Lakers roster, per ESPN.

“We know how difficult it is to triumph while preparing for the future. That’s why we want to evaluate what is best for James at the moment. LeBron is ambitious to make every campaign that he has left count and be on a competitive team, as the Lakers know that.”
LeBron (40) is entering a record-setting 23rd campaign in the National Basketball Association and shared that he doesn’t know at the moment if the upcoming season will be his final or if he will play for a few more years.
The NBA superstar, who has a no-trade clause in his contract, is 50 matches away from breaking Robert Parish’s record for most career regular-campaign matches. He will also break the tie with Vince Carter for the most seasons played in league history next campaign.
