Leon Goretzka sidelined following operation on fractured hand

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Leon Goretzka will miss the team’s next couple games after the midfielder underwent operation on his fractured hand.

The 28-year-old sustained the injury during Bayern’s routine 3-1 win over Mainz in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

The extent of the injury is still unknown and the club has given any timetable for the recovery.

Goretzka, who suffered a consecutive injuries after spraining his ankle on international duty, was replaced by Bouna Sarr with Konrad laimer going up in midfield. The Austrian is expected to be starting for Bayern in defensive midfield next to Joshua Kimmich, while Goretzka is sidelined.

The Bavarians next face Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday.
