Bayer Leverkusen, the current Bundesliga leaders, showcased their dominance with a convincing 3-0 triumph over champions Bayern Munich on Saturday.
This victory not only extended Leverkusen’s unbeaten streak to 31 matches across all competitions this season but also propelled them five points ahead in the league standings, firmly placing them in control of the title race.
Josip Stanisic, Alejandro Grimaldo, and Jeremie Frimpong were the goal scorers for Leverkusen, marking an impressive performance against a Bayern side vying for their 12th consecutive league crown.
The reigning champions struggled to make an impact, managing only a solitary shot on target throughout the 90 minutes. Xabi Alonso’s team, now with 55 points, moved ahead of Bayern, who sits in second place with 50 points.

Leverkusen’s proactive approach outshone Bayern, who initially held possession but lacked attacking creativity. The Bavarians also faltered defensively, unable to cope with the mounting pressure from Leverkusen. The opening goal came when Robert Andrich, exploiting a quickly taken throw-in, delivered a cutback to Stanisic, left unmarked at the far post, securing an easy tap-in.
In the second half, Spain international Grimaldo doubled the lead with his eighth league goal of the season, adding to Leverkusen’s commanding performance. Grimaldo even struck the crossbar with a skillfully curled corner kick. Although the hosts eased off gradually, they still came close to a third goal, with Frimpong’s low drive narrowly missing the target in the 73rd minute.

Frimpong’s persistence paid off when he hit the post in the 88th minute and capitalized on Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer’s unusual venture into the opponents’ box during stoppage time. Taking advantage of the situation, Frimpong sealed the victory with a shot from 25 meters into an empty net, concluding a memorable evening for Bayer Leverkusen.
