The striker played for Burnley on loan during the past campaign, netting 19 goals as the Clarets triumphed in the Championship and got promoted to the Premier League.
Tella has inked a 5-year contract with the Bundesliga club.
“Despite being disappointed to lose such a phenomenal homegrown player and popular character, Southampton felt the offer represented an amazing value for both sides,” the Saints shared.
“Many younger players from the Premier League receive huge opportunities in Germany and were able to become better players here,” the forward told Leverkusen’s website after his transfer.
“This historical club made it to the ½ finals of the Europa League last campaign. I really want to play for Bayer and help the club succeed.”
Tella was Southampton’s player for 6 years after joining the academy from Arsenal when he was seventeen.
