“I think that it’s the moment to shift my full focus to my wife and kids and help them realize their dreams,” the linebacker published on social media. “I’ve been thinking about this in the past few months, and the decision has never been more clear than it is at the moment.”
Shaq had inked a 1-year contract with the Dolphins during the offseason after being cut by Tampa Bay in a cost-cutting move.
He spent 5 campaigns with the Buccaneers, including the 2020 season that ended with the Super Bowl title with QB Tom Brady as the leading man in the team.
He and his family suffered a tragedy in April 2023 when his 2-year-old daughter, Arrayah, drowned in the family’s pool. Barrett returned for the beginning of the 2023 campaign and had almost 5 sacks and 52 combined tackles, including 33 solo tackles.
