The Colombian's President has warned the situation is getting very dangerous

Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro has revealed that the kidnappers of Luis Diaz’s father have not released him despite promising to do so earlier today.

The left-wing ELN insurgent group, which is identified as a terrorist organisation has been seen as the culprit behind the criminal act.

A spokesperson from the ELN had spoken with the Colombian government earlier on Friday and had promised to free the 58-year-old hostage.

However, that has failed to happen and Petro has warned of the seriousness of the situation. The President has confirmed that he has been in touch with Diaz personally to reassure him the government is doing everything it can to free his father.

Luis Diaz’s mum Cilenis Marulanda was also kidnapped on Saturday, but was abandoned by her captors hours later as the police and army hunt to catch those responsible intensified.
