Goalies Henrik Lundqvist, Tom Barrasso and Mike Vernon have been inducted into the National Hockey League Hall of Fame. Center Pierre Turgeon, Canadian international Caroline Ouellette, coach Ken Hitchcock and former manager Pierre Lacroix were also recognized.
For Vernon, entering the Hall of Fame did not come quickly. He ended his professional career 21 years ago after playing 19 seasons in the NHL and spending most of them with the Calgary Flames. He also competed for the Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks and Florida Panthers.
Lundqvist, 41, received the accolade in the first possible year. In his 15 NHL seasons, spent entirely with the New York Rangers, he played 887 games and finished with a 91.8 save percentage. The Swede deflected a staggering 23,509 pucks overall, which is eighth best all-time.
Barrasso, 58, was part of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ championship teams in 1991 and 1992. His career also includes the Calder Trophy for Rookie of the Year and the Vezina Trophy for Goaltender. He spent 12 seasons with the Pens, six with the Buffalo Sabers and several months each with the Ottawa Senators, Carolina Hurricanes, Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blues.
