Manchester City midfielder Rodri has revealed his intention to take a break during the intense season run-in as the club continues its pursuit of a second successive Treble.
The 27-year-old recently made his 41st appearance of the campaign during Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg draw against Real Madrid. With eight games across three competitions scheduled for April alone, Rodri acknowledges the importance of managing his workload.
“I do need a rest,” stated the Spain international. “Let’s see how we speak, how we live the situation. Sometimes it is what it is. I need to adjust. It (rest) is something we are planning, yes.”
The thrilling 3-3 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu extended Rodri’s remarkable unbeaten streak to 429 days and 66 games since he last lost a game while playing for City in any competition.
Despite his significant playing time this season, accumulating 3,497 minutes on the pitch, Rodri remains among the top performers in Europe’s top leagues. Notably, he has made more starts than all but three players, with only two of them being goalkeepers.
Looking ahead, Manchester City faces Luton in the Premier League before the return leg against Real Madrid on April 17th. Subsequently, they have an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea and Premier League fixtures against Brighton and Nottingham Forest before the end of the month. Managing player fitness and workload will be crucial as City aims for success across multiple fronts.
