Despite first-half scare when Holland missed a penalty the Citizens were in cruise control

Manchester City and Bayern Munich finished their 2nd leg of the Champions League 1/4 finals a 1-1 draw, but a 3-0 advantage in favour of City sees them comfortably through to the semi-finals on Wednesday night.

Bayern began the game at a quick pace in desperate need of a goal. Ederson had to make couple of good saves, but overall nothing too threatening as City gradually began to ease off the home team’s momentum.

All hell broke loose in the 37th minute when City were awarded a penalty for Upamecano’s handball. There was never any doubt as to who was going to take it, but few could have predicted that a striker of Erling Haaland’s calibre, a man, who is nearing his 50th goal of the season, could blast it over the crossbar in such fashion.

In the second half City looked a far better side with the team keeping the ball in the attacking area, posing a threat from every possible angle. And it was no surprise when Kevin De Bryune with clynical pass picked up the unmarked Haaland who blasted it past Sommer to make up for his earlier penalty blunder.

The goal pretty much killed the sting out of Bayern, who looked team well beaten up. A late penalty for the host could serve no more than a consolation as Joshua Kimmich slotted it past Ederson to draw the scoreline and make it 4-1 on aggregate.

Bayern will now have to focus on their home duties where they aim to preserve a tiny margin over second-place Borussia Dortmund. Whereas City still go full steam ahead as Pep Guardiola’s men fight on three fronts and every win draws them closer to a historic Treble.
