Manchester United are considering bringing back David De Gea just three months after the Spaniard was released by the club as a free agent.
The reason for this is that the Red Devils’ new goalkeeper Andre Onana will almost certainly play in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, which will take place between January 13 and February 11, 2024.
The former Inter goalkeeper returned to the Cameroon national team and could miss eight Manchester United games over the period he would have played in the tournament.
De Gea, 32, who spent 12 years at Old Trafford, failed to find a new club at the end of the summer transfer window. Many former United players and analysts have expressed the opinion that the club did not treat De Gea with the necessary respect, after negotiating a new contract with him until the end, but after signing Onana decided to withdraw their offer for the Spaniard.
De Gea spends much of his time in Manchester, although he currently has no commitments to the club. According to the English media, United will most likely offer him a short-term contract until the end of the season, but it is interesting whether De Gea will accept the offer.
