Man United have decided not to trigger the 1-year extension in Raphaël Varane’s deal.
It means that the French player is able to negotiate with teams outside the Premier League from today and could potentially leave the Red Devils on a free transfer after the end of the season.
🇫🇷 Raphael Varane’s Manchester United career:
– Joined for £40 million
– £300,000 per week contract
– Made 79 appearances in all competitions
– Missed 41 games through injury (so far)
– Set to leave on a free after just three seasons😬😬😬 pic.twitter.com/rREE2HIuw7

Raphaël is still considered a crucial part of the team by head coach Erik Ten Hag, but the club from Old Trafford doesn’t want to trigger a 1-campaign option, which would keep the French on a wager of more than 350k dollars per week until the summer of 2025.
Manchester United have not ruled out extending the ex-Real Madrid stay, but discussions around a new deal would likely focus on reducing his salary. The defender’s current deal is set to expire in June 2024.
The Red Devils approach is similar to the 1 taken with ex-goalkeeper David De Gea last campaign.
