The Toronto Maple Leafs have appointed Craig Berube as their new manager.
The Canadian NHL franchise dismissed manager Sheldon Keefe several days ago after Maple Leafs bowed out of the playoffs with another 1st-round elimination, for the 3rd time in 4 full campaigns under Sheldon. The Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving said that Toronto wants a fresh voice who could help the organization reach its full potential.
“In this game over a period of time, the message stops working,” shared Toronto’s general manager about Keefe’s firing.
This will be Craig’s 3rd National Hockey League managerial job. Berube was previously at the helm of the Flyers from 2013-15, guiding Philadelphia to the playoffs in 2014 before being dismissed after a disappointing 6th place finish in the Metropolitan Division in the next campaign.
After that, he became the St. Louis Blues’ AHL’s Chicago Wolves from 2016-17. At the end of the campaign, St. Louis promoted Craig to be an assistant manager under Mike Yeo. When Mike was fired in the fall of 2018, Craig became interim head coach and led the franchise to its 1st ever Stanley Cup triumph.
Craig Berube is officially the next coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In 2019 he snapped a 52 year championship drought to get the Blues their first cup since joining the league in 1967.
