During the summer, the Spanish manager took over but left after fans reportedly threatened the French team’s hierarchy during discussions between supporter groups and side staff on Monday.
A team spokesman shared that it is a “deplorable situation” as they will play against Ajax tomorrow in their Europe League opener from the group stage.
Marseille supporters showed their dismay with the manager’s tactics during a goalless draw during the weekend vs. Toulouse.
“The entire team is extremely disappointed to deal with the departure of a manager and technical staff, who only arrived in Marseille a few months ago and were fully committed to the side for non-sporting reasons.”
Despite fans’ protests, Marseille are in 3rd place in Ligue 1 and are still undefeated in their opening 5 league matches, triumphing twice and drawing 3 times.
However, Panathinaikos knocked them out in the 3rd qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League despite the French side being the big favorite before the games.
