Suarez's three-run homer inspires the Seattle team to victory

The Seattle Mariners emerged victorious 6-3 against the Pittsburgh Pirates for their sixth win in the last 7 matches on Sunday.

Eugenio Suarez proved to be the key figure as he hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning.

The Mariners started strongly, establishing and early 3-1 lead due to the solo home runs by Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh, but blew it all away in the 8th as they allowed the Pirates to tie the game.

It came down to Suarez’s brilliance to decide the match.

“I knew Stephenson was going to come with a slider I was ready for that pitch,” Suárez said. “He left a hanger right there in my strike zone and I was ready to put it in play.”

Mariners coach Scott Servais was wary of the free bases before the game and that is why he pulled Gonzales in the sixth after he issued a two-out walk. But Crawford committed a one-out throwing error to put McCutchen into scoring position in the eighth before the Pirates got to the Mariners’ usually reliable bullpen later in the inning.

The Mariners are three games above .500 for the first time this season and 3-5 in extra innings.
