Auston is the 5th player in the National Hockey League history to begin a campaign with back-to-back hat tricks, joining Alex Ovechkin, Cy Denneny, Joe Malone, and Reg Noble.
“I want to show my best skills each match that I play in,” Matthews shared after the victory. “I’m not a guy who is thinking about what happened before. It’s all the current moment. Just trying to be on the ice and give my everything to help Toronto win.”
