Auston Matthews notched his 2nd hat trick in 2 matches to start the season, and the Toronto Maple Leafs won against the Minnesota Wild 7-4.

William Nylander finished with 2 goals and an assist for the Maple Leafs, and Ilya Samsonov stopped 28 shots. Calle Jarnkrok scored and assisted, and Tyler Bertuzzi also notched. Mitchell Marner and Morgan Rielly each had 2 assists.

Auston is the 5th player in the National Hockey League history to begin a campaign with back-to-back hat tricks, joining  Alex Ovechkin, Cy Denneny, Joe Malone, and Reg Noble.

“I want to show my best skills each match that I play in,” Matthews shared after the victory. “I’m not a guy who is thinking about what happened before. It’s all the current moment. Just trying to be on the ice and give my everything to help Toronto win.”
