The Russian had never won a match in Rome before this season’s edition but is playing very well in the Italian capital and is among the final 4 on clay, as the last time this happened was in 2019 in Monte Carlo.
“I am feeling fantastic,” Daniil shared. “I said before the Italian Open, I was very positive in practice. “It is always a jeopardy to say this if you are eliminated in the 1st game, and you think, ‘Why did I say this.’ But now I’m happy as I proved it with results.”
The Russian dominated the whole clash with his serve, leaving no chance to the German qualifier, and defeated him in 1 hour and 20 minutes.
His next opponent will be Stefanos Tsitsipas or Borna Coric, who will play later today.
