Daniil Medvedev, a two-time runner-up, faced the brink of defeat but staged a remarkable comeback to secure a spot in the Australian Open third round.
Despite dropping the first two sets against Emil Ruusuvuori and receiving treatment for a foot blister, Medvedev secured a thrilling 3-6 6-7(1) 6-4 7-6(1) 6-0 victory, concluding the match at 3:39 a.m. local time.
Medvedev was struggling in the opening two hours with a leg irritation, which led to 3-6 loss in the first set and just one point won in the tiebreak the set after. This did not upset the Russian, who collected his energy and made his third comeback from two sets down in his career as all three of them happened in Melbourne.
