Daniil Medvedev shared before his match against Carlos Alcaraz that he would need to play “11 out of 10” to be able to eliminate the defending champ and world number 1 – Alcaraz in New York.
The Russian shared how he rated his performance vs. Carlos after eliminating him from the US Open.
“I played 12 out of 10,” Daniil claimed after his victory against the Spaniard, which secured him a match for the trophy vs. Novak Djokovic on Sunday.
The Russian won his only Grand Slam till now exactly at the US Open, where he beat at the final Novak Djokovic in 2021 and stopped the Serbian to complete what would have been the 1st calendar-year Grand Slam.
Medvedev showed that he is one of the best players in the world on hard courts and spoiled what everyone thought would be another Djokovic-Alcaraz final in recent months.
Daniil Medvedev on beating Carlos Alcaraz at US Open:
“I said I needed to play 11 out of 10. I played 12 out of 10. That’s the only way. 2 Grand Slams. World #1. It’s unbelievable. To beat him, you need to be better than yourself.” pic.twitter.com/G8J1Z1PooV
