“If it was up to me, there would only be hard courts,” Daniil Medvedev said after winning the title at the Masters tournament in Miami, which is his 18th on hard courts. “However, I understand that this is not right. But I love the hard courts, I like to play on them,” joked Medvedev after his victory over Jannick Siner in the final.
“I feel the best on hard courts. I know I can play well on grass and clay courts, but here I am most confident,” said Medvedev, who as of today is ranked fourth in the ATP world rankings.
The Russian won the tournament for the first time in Miami, and this was his fourth title in the last two months after those in Rotterdam, Dubai and Doha. Two weeks ago, he lost the final in Indian Wells to Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.
“I don’t think I’ve had a stronger start to the season. I usually perform best at the Australian Open, but this year I wasn’t good there. I’m happy to have turned the tide,” the Russian athlete said.
“I know I can play well on clay as well. I won against Novak (b.a. – Djokovic) and Stefanos (b.a. – Tsitsipas) in one tournament,” he recalled his participation in the Monte Carlo Masters in 2019 year.
