Daniil Medvedev won 7-6(3) 6-1 3-6 6-3 versus Carlos Alcaraz in a fascinating encounter under Arthur Ashe Stadium’s closed roof on Saturday.
Medvedev’s win denied tennis fans from the long-awaited new clash between the Spaniard and Novak Djokovic. They faced each other in the last Grand Slam final at Wimbledon and than later on in the Cincinnati Masters final, getting one title each.
Djokovic did his part breezing past Ben Shelton 6-3 6-2 7-6(4), but Alcaraz couldn’t handle the pressure against Medvedev in the search of the first back-to-back US Open titles since 2008.

The final promises to be a great one as Djokovic is on the hunt for his fourth U.S. Open that would see him equal Margaret Court’s record haul of 24 Grand Slams and, along with it, a good measure of revenge on Medvedev, because two years ago it was the Russian who denied Djokovic from the title in New York and a Calendar Grand Slam as well.
