Follow usMercedes team Principal Toto Wolff shared that he is fully confident that the Silver Arrows can compete with Red Bull if they make the right step forward just like McLaren and Aston Martin.
After dominating the hybrid era from 2014 until 2021, Mercedes have endured a difficult spell from 2022 onwards as the team has only managed to secure a single race win in almost 2 seasons.
The Silver Arrows are still 2nd in the Constructors, but trail a mammoth-like 310 points to Red Bull, who are set for another Championship double.
However, Wolff believes his team can make a significant leap over the winter, which would see them go neck-and-neck with the Milton Keynes team.
“From where we are, we just need a step like McLaren and Aston Martin have achieved in one go, not a two-tenths upgrade but a five-tenths upgrade to get back into the game, so yes I think it is possible.” he said.
“We tend to think in F1 that there’s a silver bullet that will unlock everything. We just need to put all the components together to make them work together in the car, so not one thing I would call out.”
