Leo broke the WCQ scoring mark record.

Leo Messi showed that he is back in form after netting both goals for his nation’s 2-0 triumph against Peru in their 2026 World Cup qualifier.

The Argentinian superstar returned to the starting 11 after being sidelined or playing from the bench in the past month due to a muscle injury. Messi’s last start before the clash today was with Inter Miami vs. Toronto FC on September 20th.

Messi scored the 1st goal in the 32nd minute with a phenomenal shot after an assist from Nicolas Gonzalez and doubled Argentina’s lead with his 2nd goal 10 minutes later after Enzo Fernandez’s assist.

Leo could have scored a hattrick, but his 3rd goal was disallowed for offside. But even without a 3rd goal, Messi became CONMEBOL’s leading scorer in World Cup qualifiers with his 31 goals, as he shared that record in the past with his ex-teammate Luis Suarez.

“Our squad is incredible; every time they compete, they are very close to being the best in history,” Leo claimed after the win.
