Lionel Messi has stated his intention of playing for Inter Miami’s final game of the MLS season on Saturday.
The 36-year-old once again shone for his country, scoring both goals in a 2-0 win over Peru, but was left out of the squad for Wednesday game against Charlotte.
In the aftermath, Messi said he will play on Saturday, despite no confirmation from the team.
“I’ll play the game that is left now,” said Messi.
Head-coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino hinted that Messi might be available for Saturday’s game, depending on his fitness improvement.
“Tomorrow we’ll talk with him, but the most important thing here is the 90 minutes that were played … that he felt well, and he was confident and not worried about his injury,” Martino said. “We’ll talk again to see if he’s ready to play again.”
Inter Miami has already been eliminated from MLS playoff earlier this month, but Charlotte still have solid chances and potential Messi return will severely hamper their aspirations.
