Miami safety Jevon Holland was furious, calling the MetLife Stadium turf “trash” after teammate Jaelan Phillips injured his right Achilles tendon in the Dolphins’ 34-13 win over the New York Jets on Friday.
Dolphins’ LB Jaelan Phillips’ Achilles appeared to pop on the replay. Even Dolphins’ HC Mike McDaniel didn’t sound encouraged postgame, telling reporters: “It doesn’t look great, but we’ll find out more tomorrow … I’m not fired up about it.” pic.twitter.com/Gv3e1aFl8G

Phillips had to be carted from the field in the fourth quarter, as another non-contact injury took a victim this season. This again reignited the turf-vs.-grass debate among players.
“Since I’ve been in the league, I’ve heard the field is trash,” said Holland, “I don’t know the statistics or anything like that, but I do know turf does increase the chances of getting hurt.”
Jevon Holland’s response to the question about losing his teammate Jaelan Phillips, is both heartbreaking & heartwarming at the same time.
“He’s going to know that he’s loved and he’s missed, but we’re going to go out there and ball for him.” ~ the master class that is Jevon. pic.twitter.com/v6mRtx52Ci

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his left Achilles tendon on the same field just four snaps into his debut with New York on Sept. 11. MetLife Stadium changed its surface — which had been widely criticized because of injuries — before this season. This, though, didn’t help with players’ concerns about the surface and the risks of getting hurt.
