The wide receiver sustained the injury in the third quarter of the Chargers’ 28-24 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
The 28-year-old had a catch for an 11 gain when the injury took place. A timetable for the surgery is not out yet as the swelling on the knee needs to go down.
Williams had seven receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown during the game. He had 19 catches for 249 yards and a touchdown this season.
The 28-year-old missed plenty of last season due to ankle injury and, on top of that, he was absent in the playoff game with back injury.
Joschua Palmer and first-round pick Quentin Johnson are expected to fill in the void, left by Williams.
