Monfils shocks Tsitsipas in straight sets in Toronto

Gael Monfils, world number 276, defeated world number 4, Stefanos Tsitsipas, at the Masters 1000 in Toronto and advanced to the 1/8 finals.

One breakpoint from one chance was enough for Gael to triumph in the 1^st set, as Stefanos had 2 chances to release a break, but the French saved them both.

Monfils dominated in the 2^nd set and converted 2 breaks from 3 chances to close the match as world number 4 Tsitsipas didn’t convert any break in both sets. He had 1 opportunity in the 2^nd set, but again the tennis player from France saved it.

With that victory, Monfils tied the head-to-head matches with Tsitsipas 2-2 and got revenge from their previous clash 4 years ago in Dubai, where Stefanos eliminated him in the ½ finals.

Gael will face in the next round the winner from the matchup between world number 32 – Korda, and world number 62 – Vukic.
