Montreal Canadiens trade Petry to Red Wings

The Montreal Canadiens have exchanged defenceman Jeff Petry to the Detroit Red Wings in a trade for defenceman Gustav Lindstrom and a conditional 4th-round selection in 2025. The Canadian NHL franchise will retain half of Jeff’s salary.

The 4^th round selection will be the later of the Detroit or the Boston pick.

The veteran defenceman (35) joined a few days ago from the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of the 3-organization trade that sent Erik Karlsson to Pittsburgh from San Jose; the Canadiens also got goaltender Casey DeSmith, forward Nathan Legare, and 2^nd round selection in 2025 from Penguins for forwards Mike Hoffman and Rem Pitlick.

Petry had 5 goals, and 26 assists for the Pens in the past season. He played 8 years in Montreal from 2014 to 2022, notching 70 goals and giving 178 assists in 508 matches.
