The Montreal Canadiens have exchanged defenceman Jeff Petry to the Detroit Red Wings in a trade for defenceman Gustav Lindstrom and a conditional 4th-round selection in 2025. The Canadian NHL franchise will retain half of Jeff’s salary.
The 4th round selection will be the later of the Detroit or the Boston pick.

The veteran defenceman (35) joined a few days ago from the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of the 3-organization trade that sent Erik Karlsson to Pittsburgh from San Jose; the Canadiens also got goaltender Casey DeSmith, forward Nathan Legare, and 2nd round selection in 2025 from Penguins for forwards Mike Hoffman and Rem Pitlick.
Petry had 5 goals, and 26 assists for the Pens in the past season. He played 8 years in Montreal from 2014 to 2022, notching 70 goals and giving 178 assists in 508 matches.
