The restricted free agent will come with a cap hit of almost 3 million dollars under the new contract.
The Canadian NHL franchise traded a current year 1st round pick (31st overall), a current year 2nd round pick (37th overall), and defenceman Gianni Fairbrother to the Colorado Avalanche to add Alex to their roster in June.
Newhook notched 14 goals and had 16 assists in 82 matches with Colorado in the past campaign, his 3rd season in the National Hockey League. The 22-year-old forward finished with 1 assist in 7 postseason matches.
He played 159 matches with the Avalanche, scored 27 goals and had 39 assists, and gave 4 assists in 12 playoff matches in the franchise run to the Stanley Cup championship triumph in 2022.
