Andy Murray qualified for the second round of the Masters tennis tournament in Toronto.
Murray defeated Italian Lorenzo Sonego 7:6(3), 6:0 in two hours and eight minutes of play. The success was the first for the Scottish tennis player in Toronto after winning the title in 2015.
Murray’s opponent in the second round will be the Australian Max Purcell, who started from the qualifiers, who eliminated the tenth-seeded and home favorite Felix Auger-Aliassime (Canada) 6:4, 6:4.
Number 3 in the draw Casper Ruud (Norway) eliminated the Czech Jiri Lehechka with 7:6(6), 6:4. At the same time the 11th-seeded Briton Cameron Norrie dropped out after losing to Australian Alex de Minor 5:7, 4:6, as did another Briton Daniel Evans, who lost to Canadian Gabriel Diallo 6:7(4), 5:7.
