Julian Nagelsmann may continue leading the German national football team even after the European Championship if the team performs well, according to Andreas Retich, the director of the local football federation, in an interview with Focus Online.
However, Retich did not specify what outcome in the European Championship for Germany would be deemed successful.
“I am not someone who will talk about the ranking precisely at this moment. The important thing is to win the hearts of the people. I think that wouldn’t be bad at all. I am only sure that the last place in the group at the home European Championship would be a bad result,” he said to Focus Online, quoted by DPA.
Retich added that the federation is not in negotiations with Jurgen Klopp, who will leave Liverpool of his own accord after the end of the season. However, the coach himself emphasized that he wants a break before seeking new employment.
“We respect his wish. He wants a break, and hardly anyone has a problem with that. We have not contacted him. As I already said, he wants to rest,” Retich added.
