The league's investigation revealed discrepancies in the Sixers' depiction of center Joel Embiid's status

The NBA has imposed a hefty fine of $100,000 on the Philadelphia 76ers for breaching injury reporting regulations, the league disclosed on Friday.

The league’s investigation revealed discrepancies in the Sixers’ depiction of center Joel Embiid’s status for Tuesday’s matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Despite the team initially listing Embiid as sidelined until moments before the game, he notably played 29 minutes, contributing 24 points to the 109-105 victory for Philadelphia.

Embiid’s remarkable performance contradicted the information provided by the Sixers, prompting the NBA to penalize the franchise for inaccuracies in injury reporting. The league emphasized that this fine takes into account the 76ers’ prior infractions regarding injury reporting rules.

This recent fine follows a previous penalty imposed on the Sixers on Feb. 1, where they were fined $75,000 for failing to include Embiid on their injury report ahead of their Jan. 27 clash against the Denver Nuggets. The NBA deemed the omission as a failure to provide accurate and timely injury updates, underscoring the importance of transparency in injury reporting protocols.

Joel Embiid, who has been a pivotal force for the Sixers this season, boasts impressive averages of 34.8 points and 10.9 rebounds across 36 games. His absence due to a knee injury earlier in the season underscores the significance of accurate injury reporting in maintaining the integrity of the league.
