Newcastle managed to beat Arsenal 1-0 in one of the most anticipated matches of the 11th round of the English Premier League.
The match turned into a real battle and Anthony Gordon’s winning goal in the 64th minute caused much controversy. It was also one of only three shots on target for either team in the entire game.
The first controversial situation came in the 37th minute when Kai Havertz received only a yellow card for a harsh foul into Sean Longstaff’s legs.
However, controversial refereeing decisions continued in the second half and more specifically in the 64th minute, when Gordon scored his goal.
Arsenal staff first claimed the ball had left the pitch before the cross to Joelinton in the box. After that, the Gunners were not satisfied that a foul was not called against their defender Gabriel Magalhaes and then an offside could have been called in the attack of the home side.
In the standings, Arsenal remain in third position with 24 points, three behind leaders Manchester City. Newcastle are sixth with 20 points.
