Francis Ngannou is set to return to MMA on October 19, where he will face Renan Ferreira in his promotional debut for the Professional Fighters League (PFL). Ngannou, a former UFC heavyweight champion, has shifted his focus back to MMA after a stint in boxing, where he fought against former world champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, losing to both.

Ngannou’s opponent, Brazil’s Renan Ferreira, is the winner of the PFL’s 2023 heavyweight tournament. Ferreira, 34, boasts an MMA record of 13 wins, three losses, and three no-contests, with 11 of his victories coming via knockout. He gained significant attention after defeating Bellator’s heavyweight champion Ryan Bader in February.
The undercard for the event features a highly anticipated match between long-time Bellator featherweight champion Cris Cyborg and PFL two-weight champion Larissa Pacheco. Both the winners of the Ngannou-Ferreira and Cyborg-Pacheco fights will receive the PFL’s newly established “super-fights championship belt.”
Ngannou, 37, has a formidable MMA record of 17 victories in 20 fights, with his last win being a points decision over Frenchman Ciryl Gane in the UFC in January 2022.
