The window was planned to begin on June 15th or 48 hours after the end of the Stanley Cup finals. The Vegas Golden Knights won the title after beating the Florida Panthers in Game 5 to triumph with their 1st Stanley Cup.
The franchises use buyouts to set up cap space. If the hockey player is younger than 26 years, the franchise will owe him 1/3 of their remaining deal value. If he is older than 26, the franchise must pay 2/3 of the remaining deal value.
