Ruud van Nistelrooy celebrated a successful debut as Manchester United’s interim manager with a decisive 5-2 win over Leicester City, sending the Red Devils into the EFL Cup quarter-finals. Taking over after Erik ten Hag’s exit, van Nistelrooy’s side displayed a powerful offensive performance. Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes both scored twice, while Alejandro Garnacho also added his name to the scoresheet.
United set the pace early, opening the scoring in the 15th minute. The first half saw a whirlwind of goals, with six netted in total, including Casemiro’s quickfire double, four of which came in a frantic 11-minute stretch. Bruno Fernandes added his second goal in the 59th minute, securing the win. Despite missed chances from both Fernandes and Joshua Zirkzee, United controlled the game comfortably, earning a well-deserved spot in the quarter-finals.
