The New York Rangers completed the available positions on their coaching staff today, as they inked Phil Housley as associate head coach and Dan Muse and Michael Peca as assistant coaches, as they will all work under the new manager Peter Laviolette.
Housley worked for the last time as an assistant coach for the Coyotes between 2019 and 2022, as he also has experience as a head coach in the NHL when he led the Buffalo Sabres from 2017 to 2019. Phil already worked with the Rangers’ new head coach Peter Laviolette as he was his assistant in Nashville for 4 campaigns – from 2013 to 2017.

Housley also has international experience as he helped Team USA triumphed at the 2013 World Junior Championship and was an assistant at 3 world championships.
With Phil Housley being named Associate Coach it’s noteworthy to point out that means he has more authority than both Peca and Muse. Usually, that also means if the head coach is unavailable or dismissed, the associate coach is most likely to fill the position.
