“Friends, it all started on this pitch when I was a child. That’s where my love for the game was born. After more than 14 years and 131 international matches, I have decided to end my career with the German national team. With this video, I would like to thank all the fans and supporters who backed me in the Germany team. We had many heroic victories as well as tough defeats, wonderful moments, and disappointments. I have played against the best footballers in the world and had fantastic teammates. We have had unforgettable moments, becoming world champions in Brazil. We celebrated together, cried together, but it always filled me with pride to wear the national jersey. I am grateful to the national team fans who have always supported us. Thank you for your support over all these years. Now I will be cheering for the team from the stands as a fan for the 2026 World Cup! Goodbye!” he said, dressed in the German national team jersey with his number 13.
