Van Dijk came to Liverpool on December 2017 from Southampton for 75 million pounds (almost 96.5 million dollars). Since then he has 222 games for the Reds in all competitions, scoring 19 goals and adding 12 assists. The vice-captain will be Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The decision may come as a surprise for some of the Liverpool fans, who were expecting Mohamed Salah to be the new captain, given his major contribution to the team as well as his bigger experience at Anfield, coming in July 2017.
