Los Angeles were trailing 11-8 in the final frame

Shohei Ohtani delivered a dramatic three-run homer to cap a six-run ninth-inning comeback, lifting the Los Angeles Dodgers to a thrilling 14-11 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night. The Dodgers, who had squandered an early five-run advantage, found themselves trailing 11-8 heading into the final frame before erupting for an improbable rally.

Kevin Ginkel took the mound for Arizona in the ninth, but things quickly unraveled. Andy Pages and Kiké Hernández sparked the comeback with back-to-back RBI doubles. Max Muncy followed with a game-tying single, knotting the score at 11. That brought in reliever Ryan Thompson to face Ohtani, but the Japanese superstar, already with two doubles on the night, battled back from a 1-2 count and crushed his 12th home run of the season into the right-field seats near the pool deck. The blast gave the Dodgers a 14-11 lead and capped a four-RBI night for Ohtani.

Tanner Scott sealed the win with a clean bottom of the ninth, earning his ninth save in 11 chances.

The night had started in the Dodgers’ favor as they pounced on Eduardo Rodriguez, scoring eight runs on nine hits in just 2 2/3 innings to build an 8-3 lead. But Arizona roared back. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. tied the game in the fifth with a grand slam, and in the eighth, Ketel Marte and Randal Grichuk launched solo homers off Alex Vesia to put the Diamondbacks up by three.

Despite the bullpen collapse, the Dodgers’ offense proved relentless. Pages drove in three runs, and Hernández extended the team’s home run streak to 13 games with a solo shot in the second.

Marte homered twice for Arizona, who made team history by hitting grand slams in consecutive games for only the second time—the first since 2011. Rodriguez took the loss, allowing eight earned runs in his brief outing.
