A disappointing run for the Edmonton team has led to the demise of their coach

The Edmonton Oilers have announced that coach Jay Woodcroft has been fired, following a rotten run of form and replaced by Kris Knoblauch.

Woodcroft received the sack right after a 4-1 win over Seattle on Saturday night, but that wasn’t enough to keep his job. Before that the Oilers succumbed to 4 consecutive defeats, including a shocking 3-2 loss to San Jose Sharks.

Ironically Woodcroft stated back then that he is feeling safe about his job.

“No one’s happy with where we’re at,” he said. “We all own it. We can be better, and that’s where my focus is.”

Edmonton was considered a contender for the Stanley Cup, but poor performances, which has seen the team sit next to bottom of the table, has all but ended those ambitions. The franchise has the worst save percentage of all 32 teams, having allowed nearly 4 goals in every. game.
