Oklahoma QB John Mateer is pushing to return for this weekend’s match vs. Texas.
There is optimism that John will make his return less than a month after the hand procedure, as the quarterback reacted positively to the intervention. It is unclear when a decision will be made on whether Mateer will be cleared to play as his team’s manager, Brent Venables, has revealed publicly when he would be able to return.

John is recovering from a procedure on a broken bone in his right hand that took place 2 weeks ago. Oklahoma quarterback being on the field vs. Texas in Saturday’s Allstate Red River Rivalry would dovetail with the most optimistic schedule, as he would be 17 days out of procedure.
He sustained his problem in the 1st quarter of Oklahoma’s 24-17 victory vs. Auburn on September 20th. However, he remained in the match and ended the game with 24-of-36 for 271 yards.
