Oleksandr Usyk believes Tyson Fury is scared of him after the Briton agreed to a boxing match against former UFC world heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. Fury and Usyk were close to an agreement for a world title clash following the Ukrainian’s second win over Anthony Joshua, but talks broke down and a fight never materialized.
Ahead of his August 26 bout with Great Britain’s Daniel Dubois, the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion criticized the Gypsy King for taking the easier option.
“This guy is going to make a lot of money. For Francis Ngannou it’s a great opportunity, but for Tyson Fury – definitely not. Doesn’t it seem strange that instead of picking a top 10 boxer, he’s going with someone who’s never boxed in your life?” Usyk said.
Fury last fought compatriot Derek Chisora and knocked him out in the 10th round after previously hinting at retirement, while Usyk faced Joshua last August, defending his belts on a unanimous decision. “The greedy belly is afraid of me. However, there is still hope that it will come to fight for the absolute world title. Let’s do it. I’m ready. After the fight with Dubois I’m ready for it, but my main focus now is August 26,” added the Ukrainian.
