Alex Ovechkin had his 33rd hat trick in the NHL and had an assist to move to 10th place on the league points leaderboard, leading the Washington Capitals to an 8-4 victory against the Montreal Canadiens, as that was the Canadian team’s 5th consecutive defeat.

The Russian superstar has 10 goals in the current campaign to push his National Hockey League record to 907. Alex has 1,643 points to move 2 past Joe Sakic for 10th on the scoring list. Ovechkin has notched in 4 consecutive matches and 5 of 6.

Alex is also the 2nd player in league history with 6 goals in a 4-match span at age 40 or older, as Teemu Selanne did it 14 years ago.

The Russian scored the 1st goal in the game in a power play a minute in the 1st period, firing a wrist shot past goalie Sam Montembeault off a faceoff. The Capitals’ superstar then assisted Ethen Frank 2 minutes in the 2nd that gave the Capitals the lead for good at 2-1.

Ovechkin notched 2 goals late in the 3rd period to continue to write history in the NHL.
